Dr. John Girvin Contributes to New Gramercy Brass Album

MBS Performing Arts faculty member Dr. John Girvin recently contributed an arrangement of “A Christmas Celebration,” a holiday medley that is featured on the new album “A Gramercy Brass Christmas.” The album is available on CD and most music streaming services, and was recorded at Morristown Beard School in Founders Hall last summer.

Dr. Girvin, who also plays vibraphone mallets on several tracks, has worked with Gramercy Brass for many years. On the group’s latest album, Dr. Girvin arranged a large-scale medley that includes “Up On the Housetop,” “The Bell That Wouldn’t Jingle,” “The Christmas Waltz,” and “White Christmas.”

Gramercy Brass is celebrating its 40th season this year and recently acquired sponsorship from Amazon for a series of celebration concerts in the New York metro area with a 28-piece ensemble.

Members of the MBS community may be familiar with the group since a quintet from Gramercy Brass plays at Commencement each year.
