David Strauss Speaks to BFI Club about Equity Research and the Aerospace Industry

Thanks to MBS parent David Strauss, who visited campus last Friday, December 9 to speak with members of the BFI (Business, Finance, and Investment) Club about his career in equity research focusing on the aerospace and defense sector.

For nearly 20 years, Mr. Strauss served as Managing Director of Equity Research – Aerospace & Defense at UBS before joining Barclays as a Managing Director in 2017. In his presentation, he discussed his career path and the unique aspects of his job, as well as current news and trends in the industry.

Mr. Strauss, who earned a bachelor’s degree from Economics from Georgetown University as well as an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, said that he always had an interest in the markets and read The Wall Street Journal regularly — which he advised the students to do as well. He said that he “fell into” equity research after going to business school. For students interested in a similar career, he suggested college majors such as economics, finance, accounting, and data science.

He also gave the students a glimpse of what’s to come in the aerospace industry. He discussed the company Wisk, makers of the all-electric, self-flying eVTOL (electric, vertical take-off and landing) air taxi, and showed several images of what they look like and where students can expect to see them.
