It was a three-peat for the MBS boys ice hockey team on Monday night, February 14 as the Crimson held on to defeat Morris Knolls, 4-3, for their third consecutive Mennen Cup championship.
Morristown Beard mounted a 4-0 lead midway through the third period as Andrew Low ’22 scored twice and Noah Jones ’22 and Nick Squashic ’25 each tallied a goal. The Crimson then weathered a late comeback by Morris Knolls as Luke Richardson erupted for a hat trick in less than two minutes to pull the score to 4-3. Fortunately for MBS, the push by Morris Knolls was too little, too late.
With the win, Morristown Beard has now captured the 14th Mennen Cup title in program history.
After a slow start to the year, the Crimson seem to be peaking at the right time and have won their last five games. “Once we figured out we were back at full roster and full strength, we were getting our practices in,” said captain Andrew Low. “We knew we were a skilled and confident team and coach (Scott Greene) laid the tools for us and we knew we could do something special.”
Freshman goalie Casey Connor ’25 ended the game with 22 saves to pick up the win. “I’m just so proud of our team and the way we battled today and all year,” he said. “Hopefully, we can bring this momentum into States.”
