Boys Ice Hockey Defeats #1 Team in the State

After dropping their first two games of the season, the MBS boys ice hockey team is on quite a roll — winning five straight games including a 5-2 victory over the #1 team in the state, Bergen Catholic, at Mennen Arena on Thursday, December 19th.

“We’ve just been playing unselfishly and we showed we can do that in our strong preseason,” said Head Coach Scott Greene. “We knew Bergen Catholic was the team to beat before the year started and we had a good run leading up to it with wins over Morristown (#10), St. Joseph of Montville, and Madison (No. 20). They scored with a few seconds to go in the second period to even the game at 2-2, so I’m proud of our guys for responding in the third period.”

Seth Kaplan led the team with two goals as Hollis Humphries, Cam Fernandez, and Tommy Matthews netted the other three goals for MBS.

The MBS boys ice hockey team now has a week off before taking the ice against another ranked opponent, Randolph (No. 7) on Friday night, December 27th.

“The kids are looking forward to the tough schedule,” said Coach Greene. “We’re just going to keep the puck out of the net and continue to play as a team.”

Go Crimson!
