Baseball Team Honored Nationally for 9th Straight Year

For the ninth year in a row, the Morristown Beard School varsity baseball team has been selected to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

This year’s award was presented to only two schools in New Jersey — Morristown Beard School and New Providence High School. To be eligible, high school teams had to be current ABCA members with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2023-2024 academic year.

"This achievement is a testament to our commitment to maintaining academic excellence as a priority. Our student-athletes have demonstrated that success on the field and in the classroom go hand-in-hand, embodying the true spirit of our program. As a team we are grateful to our faculty for their hard work, and dedication as they were instrumental in achieving this honor," said Head Coach John Sheppard.

The 2024 Morristown Beard School varsity baseball team was under the direction of Head Coach John Sheppard along with assistant coaches Joe DeKasar, Scott Schroeder, and Marteese Robinson.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation’s oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA’s awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other awards including the ABCA Hall of Fame and Ethics in Coaching Award.
