Baseball Team Honored Nationally for Academics for 6th Year

For the sixth year in a row, the Morristown-Beard School varsity baseball team has been selected to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

This year’s award was presented to only 202 schools nationwide and just four schools in New Jersey — Morristown-Beard School, Newark Academy, New Providence, and The Lawrenceville School. To be eligible, high school teams had to be current ABCA members with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2020-2021 academic year.

“It is very impressive to maintain this high academic standard for six years, particularly this year with all of its challenges. These players have been committed to the program's priority on academics and have made it a goal to earn this honor each year,” said Head Coach John Sheppard. “I want to publicly congratulate our faculty and the 2021 Baseball Program for distinguishing themselves among the most prestigious programs in the nation. Thanks to the committed faculty at Morristown-Beard, our student-athletes are able to achieve such honors.”

The 2021 Morristown-Beard School varsity baseball team was under the direction of Head Coach John Sheppard along with assistant coaches Joe DeKasar, Ken Monteith, Tom Moore, and Scott Schroeder.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation’s oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA’s awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other awards including the ABCA Hall of Fame and Ethics in Coaching Award.
