MBS Varsity Baseball Earns National Academic Honor for 10th Straight Year

For the tenth consecutive year, the Morristown Beard School varsity baseball team has been honored with the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) — a recognition that highlights the team’s dedication both on the field and in the classroom.

This year, only two schools in New Jersey received the award: Morristown Beard School and New Providence High School.

To qualify, high school teams must be current ABCA members and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2024–2025 academic year.

Head Coach John Sheppard P'17 credited the players and school community for the continued success. “This achievement is a testament to our commitment to maintaining academic excellence as a priority. Our student-athletes have demonstrated that success on the field and in the classroom go hand-in hand, embodying the true spirit of our program. As a team, we are grateful to our faculty for their hard work and dedication — they were instrumental in helping us achieve this honor,” said Coach Sheppard.

The 2025 varsity team was led by Head Coach John Sheppard and assistant coaches Scott Schroeder, Marteese Robinson, and Mark Silvestri. The junior varsity team was guided by Joe Dekasar, Adam Miller, and Jack Fleming '11.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, has a long-standing tradition of honoring excellence in baseball. In addition to the Team Academic Excellence Award, the ABCA presents several prestigious honors, including the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams, All-Region Awards, Coaches of the Year, and more.
