Baseball Captures State Championship with Win over DePaul

A three-run rally in the top of the sixth helped the MBS baseball team defeat DePaul Catholic, 8-6, on Thursday, June 10 to win the NJSIAA North Jersey, Non-Public B title.

First baseman JJ Lebovitz ’22 had a big day at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring another two for the Crimson (14-10).  Catcher Jordan Greenaway ’22 got MBS on the scoreboard first, belting a solo home run in the first inning.

The decisive run scored on a miscue in the top of the sixth as DePaul made two errors on the same play, allowing Alex Taurman ’22 to score from first. Lebovitz’s RBI triple and Jackson Scully’s RBI double added some insurance for the Crimson.

On the mound, senior pitcher Michael Sciarra ’21 had five strikeouts for MBS.

“We’ve had some tough challenges, but this was just awesome,” said Jordan Greenaway. “I feel like we did a really good job of executing when we needed to, and overall we just did a great job — pitching, hitting, defense, everything.”
