Andrea Deventer Named to Board of Give & Surf

Congratulations to MBS faculty member Andrea Deventer, who has been named to the board of directors of Give & Surf, a nonprofit in Panama founded by MBS alumnus Neil Christiansen ’02.

During the past eight years, Ms. Deventer has led numerous MBS Upper School volunteer trips to Bocas del Toro, where Christiansen founded Give & Surf to assist indigenous communities through education and community development projects. Remote location plays a huge role in limiting access to education for the indigenous populations in Bocas del Toro. Give & Surf currently assists eight different communities on five different islands, and sends boats to pick up the children each morning to take them to school.

Community service is a cornerstone of the Morristown-Beard School educational experience, and helps MBS students gain personal satisfaction and self-confidence on their journey to becoming productive and responsible citizens.

Although Ms. Deventer – who serves as the School’s Director of Community Service – won’t be able to lead a student trip this year due to the pandemic, she looks forward to volunteering with the organization on a solo trip this summer.
