Alumni and Alumnae Enjoy Vero Beach Event

More than 25 members of the Morristown-Beard School community gathered for a festive cocktail party and dinner at the Kimpton Vero Beach Hotel & Spa in Vero Beach, Florida on Saturday, March 2nd.

At the cocktail party, alumni and alumnae gathered outside on the patio to enjoy the ocean view, catch up with old friends and share stories of their days at the Morristown School and the Beard School.

Afterwards, guests moved to the Shoreline Room for dinner where they learned about recent initiatives and the latest campus news from Headmaster Peter J. Caldwell.

The event was spearheaded by members of the Morristown School Class of 1958 who were so inspired after attending their 60th Reunion on campus last June that they wanted to do more for the School. They have put together an ambitious campaign for their class to support the new Center for Innovation & Design and have also established a  Humanitarian Scholarship that they are underwriting to recognize a graduating senior for humanitarian service.

Throughout the dinner party, many graduates stood up and spoke about what they’ve been doing since their days at the Beard School and the Morristown School. The stories ranged from sailing around the world for 15 years, to grandchildren overcoming cancer, to setting records for scuba diving. A toast was made to Justin Whiting, the 99-year old father of alumnus Justin Whiting ’61, who was killed serving in the Vietnam War.

Alumni and friends in attendance included: Bruce “Sandy” Adam ’57, Parry Adam, Penelope Dunn Alexitch ’54, Linda Barker, Bill Birch ’58, Virginia Birch, Peter J. Caldwell, Monya Taylor Davis ’88, Stewart Dunn ’58, Carol Hancock, Gus Hancock ’58, Kenneth Koziol ’64, Doug Mockett ’58, Betsy Patterson, Ken Phillips ’58, Betsy Ferris Puchner ’56, Peter Puchner, David Rutgers ’58, Robin Rutherford, Bill Stewart ’60, Laurie Stewart, Justin Whiting, and Leonard Whitlock ’69.

Thanks to everyone who attended and made the evening so successful!
