"All That Jazz" Kicks Off Spring Concert Series

Founders Hall was jumpin' on Thursday, April 25th as the MBS Performing Arts Department kicked off its spring concert series with “All That Jazz.”

The audience was treated to the MBS Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. John Girvin, playing a wide variety of instrumental styles, including the music of jazz greats Quincy Jones, Bill Withers, Sonny Rollins, Horace Silver and Miles Davis, as well as the perennial favorite “Africa,” by Toto. 

For the final tune of the night, the Ensemble performed Robert Johnson’s “Sweet Home Chicago,” featuring MBS Dean of Faculty Dr. John Mascaro on harmonica.  

The MBS Jazz Ensemble performers included: Samantha Grant and Matt Aiello (reeds), Terry Luongo and Zachary Aycock (keyboard), Arik Morton, Ethan Hong, Mikail Patankar, Ryan Recupero, and Alexander Grayzel (trumpet), Alexander Rebhun and Matthew Francis-Manshel (guitar), Matt Lindberg and Jordan Moody (trombone), Ben Ferrier and Zachary Lebovitz (drums), and Coby Schneider (bass).

The backstage crew included: Alex Miskewitz and Ian O’Brien (sound), Sanaah Aslam and Jason Bloomenthal (lights), and Matt Ellerthorpe (house manager). Thanks to Nik Marmo for lighting design.
