A Lively Jazz and Percussion Concert in Founders Hall

The audience was treated to a lively performance in Founders Hall on Thursday night, May 2 as the Middle School Band and the Upper School Jazz and Percussion Ensembles performed their spring concert.

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. John Girvin, played a range of songs from West Side Story’s “Cool” to Miles Davis’ “Pfrancing” and Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely.” On Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing," the group was joined by talented senior guitarist Shaylan Patel ’24.

The Percussion Ensemble’s selections included an improvised piece followed by Carlos Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice.”  The Middle School Band played a pair of well-known tunes: Sylvester Allen’s “Low Rider” and Booker T. Jones’ “Green Onions.”

The concert featured nearly 40 student performers including: Armaan Ahsan, Ryan Ahsan, Nicholas Anderson, Spencer Anderson, Zachary Brown, Imani Crosby, Peter Cross, Evan Dixter, Angus Downey, Abigail Ewing, Ari Feldman, Henry Hannigan, Liam Hong, Liam Johnson, Adin Kasmin, Evie Lisk, Sebastian Miscia, Jared Palker, Maya Patankar, Shaylan Patel, Calcifer Persaud, Shawn Ramasamy, William Ross, Kayla Ruggiero, Brandon Sang, Grant Sheldon, Theodore Sigalos, Jack Song, Sara Tang, Jack Thompson, Kevin Tone, Spencer Traub, Nick Troiano, Nicholas Tucker, Logan Turner, Arden Upadaya, and Chris Yermack.
