A Journey Through American Art: MBS Visits The Met

11th Grade US History students recently traveled to New York City to explore one of the most celebrated collections of American art: The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s American Wing. The visit offered a valuable opportunity to engage directly with iconic works that illuminate the nation’s artistic, historical, and cultural evolution.

The American Wing recently marked its 100th anniversary with a major reinstallation that expanded and reinterpreted the Met’s core collection. By placing renowned masterpieces alongside recent acquisitions, the galleries encouraged students to consider fresh perspectives and deepen their understanding of American identity and ideals.

Students were given guided tours by Met docents, who focused on how art expresses American ideals. To ensure space for close looking and discussion, students divided into two groups, each following a different route and viewing a unique selection of works.

It was a memorable day of learning that brought American history to life in meaningful and inspiring ways.
