9th Graders Join New Interdisciplinary Concentrations Program

This week, more than a third of the 9th Grade Class applied and was accepted into Morristown-Beard School’s new Interdisciplinary Concentrations Program.

The Interdisciplinary Concentrations Program offers pathways for students eager to explore an aspect of the world that transcends single classes, disciplines, and extracurricular pursuits.  Students applied and were placed in one of three Concentration pathways:

·     Arts and Innovation
·     Global Citizenship
·     Ethics, Leadership, Justice

This year, 9th Grade students in the program will engage in summer reading related to their area of concentration. Starting in the fall, they will have weekly cohort lunches with their ICP advisors discussing topics, sometimes hearing from guest speakers via Zoom, and planning for summer projects and activities. Students will also be encouraged to pursue community service and extracurricular opportunities relevant for their concentrations.

Kate Muttick ’97 will oversee the program and will lead the Ethics, Leadership, Justice concentration. Matt Martino will serve as advisor for the Arts and Innovation concentration, and Aline de la Torre-McCloskey will be the advisor for Global Citizenship.
