8th Grade Makerspace Class Creating Stars for "Theatre of Light" Event

Matt Martino’s 8th Grade Makerspace class has been busy creating 12” stars to display at the “Theatre of Light,” a celebration hosted around the reflection pool at Vail Mansion Plaza in Morristown beginning on Sunday, November 12.

This free community-wide engagement project — spearheaded by the Mayo Performing Arts Center, CORE Creative Placemaking and Morris Arts — uses the universal symbol of light to illuminate the rich cultural diversity of the area and celebrate the start of winter as a curtain of stars and lights will welcome visitors onto the Vail Plaza.

The MBS 8th Graders have been using the laser cutter in the School’s Center for Innovation & Design (CID) to make two identical stars — one for the festival and one to take home. This week, they took their stars outside to decorate them with shiny gold spray paint.

This will be the 4th year of the “Theatre of Light,” which focuses on the concept of light as an important aspect of so many cultures. To view a video of last year’s celebration, click here.
