7th Graders Get a Lesson in Stage Combat

As part of their study of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, 7th Grade English classes got a crash course in stage combat from math teacher Jennifer Larson, who guided the students through six basic movements using meter sticks as swords.

After dividing into two groups — the Capulets and Montagues — the students paired up with a partner and practiced their choreographed movements. Next week, the students will take their sword fighting to the next level by incorporating transitions into the sequences.

At the end of the class, Headmaster Peter Caldwell even brushed up on his stage combat techniques.
