7th Graders Create Day of the Dead Altars

On Thursday, October 31st, Adriana Arroyave's 7th grade Spanish classes created beautiful diorama altars and made presentations about the Day of the Dead — el Día de los Muertos.

The Day of the Dead, which starts on October 31st and ends on November 2nd, is a Mexican holiday that celebrates friends and family members who have died. In Mexican culture, death is viewed as a natural part of the life cycle, and it is viewed as a day of celebration rather than sadness.

A Day of the Dead altar typically includes marigolds, candles, food, and pictures of dead loved ones. People set them up in their homes, at cemeteries and other places that hold significance.

As part of their presentations, the students explained the different elements of their altars and spoke about the significance of the holiday.
