7th Graders Collect Snacks and Books for The Neighborhood House

The MBS 7th Grade Class recently participated in a “Heartfelt Stories & Snacks” drive to benefit The Neighborhood House of Morristown.  The students donated a favorite childhood book as well as individually-wrapped snacks such as pretzels, Goldfish, fruit snacks, popcorn, and veggie straws. Many 7th Graders also wrote a heartfelt message inside the books that they donated for the preschoolers at The Neighborhood House.

Traditionally, a different MBS 7th Grade advisory visits The Neighborhood House each month to assist the preschool teachers by reading books aloud in class, playing games, and participating in other activities. Although that is not possible this year due to the pandemic, MBS wanted to continue its partnership with The Neighborhood House in the spirit of community service and literacy initiatives.

Community service is a cornerstone of the Morristown-Beard School educational experience, and helps MBS students gain personal satisfaction and self-confidence on their journey to becoming productive and responsible citizens.

The Neighborhood House is a division of Cornerstone Family Programs (formerly Family Service of Morristown). They strive to build better lives and stronger communities by helping individuals and families who are confronting economic and other life challenges. Their programs include preschool, after-school, summer camp, recreation, tutoring, and parent education programs.
