7th Graders Assist with Neighborhood House Thanksgiving Celebration

On Tuesday, November 19th, MBS 7th Grade students from Sharon Phelan’s advisory volunteered at The Neighborhood House of Morristown, where they played with the preschoolers in class and assisted with a Thanksgiving celebration.

The Thanksgiving meal was donated by Bazodee, a local business that makes Caribbean sauces. The 7th Grade students helped serve the meals and enjoyed a meal themselves. News 12 New Jersey was there to film the event and interviewed MBS student Raidah Karriem about the School's partnership with The Neighborhood House. To see the News 12 segment, please click here.

Throughout the school year, a different MBS 7th Grade advisory visits The Neighborhood House each month, and the students assist the preschool teachers by reading books aloud in class, playing games, and participating in other activities.

MBS participants included students Zachary Braun, Emani Darko, Raidah Karriem, Lauren Koepff, Alex McMahon, Jaya Pally, Clara Pearl, Leon Sarkissian, and Emma Teitelbaum along with 7th Grade teachers Sharon Phelan and Cathy Kellstrom.

The Neighborhood House is a division of Cornerstone Family Programs (formerly Family Service of Morristown).  They strive to build better lives and stronger communities by helping individuals, families, and new immigrants who are confronting economic and other life challenges.  Their programs include pre-school, after-school, summer camp, recreation, tutoring, and parenting education programs.
