6th Grade Language Students Paint in the Arboretum

On Friday, May 14, 6th Graders in the Language Exploration class took advantage of the beautiful spring weather and created some watercolor paintings in the Frelinghuysen Arboretum.

The students are ending the year with a cultural unit on art from the classical, francophone, and Spanish-speaking world, and Friday’s class was their first installment in the unit.

Before heading out to the Arboretum, they watched a video about impressionism to get some inspiration. In the next few weeks, the students will also learn about cubism and portrait sculpture before ending the year by creating their own masterpiece recreations as part of the Getty Art Challenge.
