Alexa Rojek

Alexa Rojek

While attending Morristown Beard School, Alexa performed in eight fully-produced plays and musicals (earning three nominations for her performances), took dance classes, played cello in the Upper School String Ensemble, and produced several Coffee House performances.

She writes: "In my experience, academic success at MBS and participation in the Performing Arts is positively correlated. On a pen-and-paper level, 90% of the Cum Laude inductees in 2015 … participated in some aspect of Performing Arts at MBS, and in every year since, the group has been dominated by “Founders Kids”. I do not see this as a coincidence. Any extracurricular activity can teach you time management, but the Performing Arts requires that you master it. Additional skills that are tested and developed along the way include creative problem solving, empathy, and multitasking. Being able to develop strong time management skills through my involvement in the Performing Arts prior to attending college was an invaluable gift."

"The most important things that the MBS Performing Arts community gave me that led to my success in college was confidence in myself, a belief in my abilities, and a motivation to always push myself to be better than yesterday. These are all things that make for a good student, a good college applicant, and a good person."

"I am certain that my participation in the Performing Arts helped me get into college … it is what I wrote my college essay about!"

"The teachers I had the privilege of working with were among some of the most professional, talented, and caring educators I have ever encountered. I partially owe my extreme commitment to MBS Performing Arts to the teachers that challenged me to move outside of my comfort zone, and who trusted me with responsibilities in order to help me grow and to teach me courage."

Alexa Rojek (MBS ’15) is from Chatham, New Jersey. She graduated from Santa Clara University, where she studied Political Science and Theatre Arts.
