John McCarthy is in his first season with Morristown Beard, serving as assistant coach of the boys JV ice
hockey team. He brings a strong background in communications and skill development to help student-
athletes become better players and better people.
John has more than 20 years of experience playing and coaching ice hockey. He’s a USA Hockey Level 4
certified coach and has led numerous Jersey Colts Tier II travel teams as well as Morristown recreational
teams, from Mites through Middle School and Midgets. John is currently an assistant coach for the Colts
U18 team and head coach of Morristown’s U14 rec team. He also coaches the MCYHL Skating Skills and
Hockey Fundamentals Clinic, providing basic skating and hockey skill development for new players, and
is a USA Hockey certified referee.
John earned a bachelor’s degree in English from East Stroudsburg University and is a professional writer
and expert in executive communications.
