Strong Inside and Out

Our coaches and athletes honor a value we also embrace in the classroom: finding the very best in themselves.

Athletics

Athletics are a vital part of the Morristown-Beard School experience. The opportunities to play, coach, or otherwise support our teams allow our athletics to embrace the entire community, including students, faculty, staff, and parents.

More than 80 percent of our students play at least one sport. Our athletes honor the same values we embrace in the classroom. Our coaches aspire to the same ideals as our teachers: to help all our young people find the very best in themselves. We put great emphasis on participation, with an unwavering commitment to the fundamental values of fair play and sportsmanship.

Athletics Mission

MBS athletics promote the physical and educational well being of student-athletes by reflecting the highest standards of dignity and honor that characterize competitive sports in a school setting.

Thank you for supporting the many athletic programs here at Morristown-Beard School. We value all of our fans as members of the community, and strive to make your association with our department a proud one. Whether we are parents, teachers, staff, or simply Crimson supporters, we are all justly proud of the dedication and commitment of our student-athletes.

Instilling Strength

At Morristown-Beard School, participation in athletics goes hand-in-hand with academic growth.

Students learn how to compete effectively and with integrity in any setting, how to be a contributing member of a team, how to provide leadership, and how to be resilient after defeat or victory. We believe that these lessons, along with those learned in the MBS classroom, instill and strengthen the values that will lead to personal and professional fulfillment.

Alternative to Team Sports

Fitness Class

Fitness is offered to students as an alternative to participating in team sports; it is offered all three athletic seasons. The Fitness class is designed to address speed, agility, strength and flexibility:

  • Speed and Agility include ways to improve running/sprinting form and technique. Students improve their first step and gain stride length. Agility drills are also be added to help overall quickness.

  • Strength and Flexibility help students become stronger while keeping a focus on staying flexible. Climbing, tug-of-war, push-ups, and sit-ups are great ways to gain strength without using weights. Flexibility is achieved through exercises such as static stretching, dynamic stretching, and yoga.
