Born in Wales, Darren Lovelock earned his B.A. at Jesus College, Oxford, and his M.A. at the University of British Columbia.

He caught the teaching bug back in the 1990s when he spent a summer teaching English as a foreign language at a college in Romania. After that, Darren worked at boys’ boarding schools back in the United Kingdom and then at day schools in Manhattan and Brooklyn. In 2010, he joined the English department at Morristown Beard. In his time at the school, Darren has chaired that very same English department and continues to serve as faculty advisor for the academic journal, Standard Candle.

Darren has chaperoned a number of MBS service trips over the past eight years, including expeditions to Thailand, Peru, and Tanzania. Being woken by laughing hyenas while camping in the Serengeti remains an indelible memory for him.

After twenty years teaching in a wide variety of schools, Darren feels right at home in the educational ethos of MBS. He admires how his colleagues ardently and continuously seek to improve their pedagogy, and he finds the principal goal of the school’s current strategic plan—to create an environment that empowers students to take ownership of their education—compelling and heartening.
