Vaughan Leigh has called Morristown Beard School her home for over thirty years. To her, it is a place where she has found an unparalleled sense of community and warmth among students and faculty.

Vaughan graduated from the University of Richmond with a B.A. in Spanish and Sociology, and furthered enriched her education by studying at the University de Salamanca, Spain as well as a language school in Cuernavaca, Mexico. She also studied under the tutelage of an award-winning author in Costa Rica. An itch to view the classroom from the students’ perspective soon found Vaughan in the Rutgers University Masters Program, and she earned her MAT in 2012.

These academic experiences truly enable Vaughan to share a wealth of knowledge with her students as a Spanish teacher in the Upper School Language Department. She has taught Spanish I–IV using a variety of methodologies, but what connects her most to her students is the stories that she writes and incorporates into the lesson. Personalizing Spanish and making it relevant to her students is key, not only in acquiring the language, but also in helping them become successful citizens in our global community.

During her tenure at MBS, Vaughan has served as Department Chair, a college counselor, a student advisor, and the faculty liaison and Co-Chair for the Strategic Plan Steering Committee. She has also co-run the faculty mentoring program and served on multiple committees.

These days, you can find Vaughan on campus organizing the weekly All-School Meeting, chatting with colleagues about education, conversing with students or advisees, and rooting for the Crimson basketball teams. Away from Morristown Beard, this ardent animal enthusiast (especially cats!) enjoys watching football, tennis, and spending time at the beach and exploring the Caribbean.
