The School Community
Morristown-Beard is an independent, coeducational day school serving students from over 85 communities and nine counties in northern New Jersey. There are 575 students in grades 6-12, with an Upper School enrollment of 435. There are 92 faculty members, of whom 72% hold advanced degrees, of which 19% are doctoral. The School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools and is approved by the New Jersey State Department of Education.

Student Spotlight
Alex Motley ’16
At Morristown-Beard School, Motley has certainly put himself in a multitude of situations to take risks and to grow. He is the Senior Class President, a captain of the varsity football team, a blood drive captain, a peer leader, and a member of the Diversity Club. He has also played varsity basketball, and plans to play lacrosse this spring for the first time.
“When I find myself feeling uncomfortable, I know that’s a good thing because it means I’m taking risks. I know I have to put myself out there and go above and beyond to reach my potential,” he said. “My favorite phrase is ‘get comfortable being uncomfortable.’”
While he is a gifted football player, Motley is quick to point out that he is a student-athlete first and foremost. He said that he has enjoyed his studies at MBS, adding that his favorite teachers have helped to bring him outside of his comfort zone. “MBS has taught me to always try my hardest, and to take my skills further than I ever imagined. In math, Mr. Hartman was the most challenging teacher in the best way possible. Mr. Lovelock was similar in English.”
Whether he is in the classroom, on the playing field, or engaged in a student government meeting, Motley balances his work ethic with a friendly demeanor and a smile that is absolutely infectious.
